Signed Copy of Day of The Bomb

A compelling historical documentary written by Dan Kurzman, an American journalist and writer of military history books. The book draws upon interviews and documents, including ones previously unpublished, to recount the events that led to the fateful moment of dropping the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. 

Theodore Van Kirk, the Navigator of the Enola Gay, wrote and signed an inscription on the front page of the book:

"A fascinating book about President Truman's decision to drop the atomic bomb. The book states that one of the main U.S. aims was to end the war before the Russians could thrust into Manchuria and take China. The mission to drop the bomb was assigned to our crew, I was the navigator, and we dropped the bomb as planned on Hiroshima. The mission was a total success and the war ended as planned.

'Even Oppenheimer was worried about our atomic bombs U235 as it would be the only weapon in history that would be used without a test.'"

Thousands of historical non-fiction, literature and memoirs have been written about the bombing of Hiroshima, including those written by the crew of the Enola Gay who carried out the mission. One of which was most prominent was the Return of the Enola Gay (previously titled Flight of the Enola Gay), written by Paul W. Tibbets, the pilot and mission commander.
